A suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber has killed soldiers at a checkpoint near a military barrack in Maiduguri.
The bomber detonated a vehicle rigged with explosives as he was being searched, security sources said on Thursday, June 4.
The blast occurred a few hours after another explosion rocked a major market in Yola, Adamawa, which is a neighbouring state.
It was not immediately ascertained the number of soldiers that died in the blast.
A senior officer, who spoke to Premium Times anonymously confirmed the incident to journalists.
“Of course there was a blast today, but it was not exactly at the military checkpoint as you said; it was some 60meters away from it; and it was civilians that were affected”.
But in a contrary account, a member of Civilian-JTF, Bashir Malam, told journalists that some soldiers were killed by the bomb that was detonated by a suicide bomber who was driving a car coming into the town from the Baga town.
